San José Councilor launches his campaign for Mayor and with him there are already three seeking the position | Your Political City Bay Area

Mahan held an event this Saturday to present his candidacy, where his main bet is affordable housing.

In his speech, the councilor presented his political platform as a “common sense revolution.”

His campaign highlights attention to basic issues like city cleanliness, road paving, and public safety. It also seeks to facilitate access for homeless people to a basic and safe shelter and to care for those who suffer from serious mental illnesses and addictions so that they do not walk on the streets or in parks.

On the other hand, it proposes to improve police practices and not take funds from the police, in addition to encouraging new homes to be close to places with better mobility and not where developers want it, to avoid traffic, displacement and environmental damage.

In April, the councilors Dev Davis and Raúl Peralez also launched their candidacies to replace Liccardo, who can no longer run for his position.

From a family of Mexican immigrants

The Latino Councilor Raul Peralez, whose family emigrated from Mexico, highlights his past as an immigrant and his difficult life in western San José, where his parents rented an apartment and spent long hours working with low wages.

Peralez is also focused on addressing the homeless crisis, developing affordable housing for working families, eliminating systemic racism, and public safety.

“We can help our small businesses rise up, bring businesses of all sizes to the table to create jobs, and create a San José that is economically successful and resilient,” says Peralez.

Councilwoman Davis is also interested in boosting housing and I support the idea of ​​locating high-density housing near transit areas and is in favor of protecting the zoning of single-family homes.

Davis says he has worked on initiatives to increase the supply of permanent housing.

Regarding public safety, Davis lists some actions that he supported to strengthen the police, such as increasing the number of officers and increasing the budget of the Police Department.
