Eat and drink
Restaurants in San Francisco have struggled with pandemic restrictions, but also with high operating costs and a high cost of living limiting the workforce. Many storefronts remain empty and several old businesses have closed, including de Aliotoan Italian seafood restaurant that has courted Fisherman’s Wharf for 97 years, and the Cliff House, an iconic destination along the rugged Pacific coastline (a new restaurant could open there by the end of the year).
While it’s undeniably difficult, the past two years have had a silver lining: outdoor dining and drinking has popped up everywhere, at long-established restaurants like No to new places like marcosa trendy Irish bar in Mission that opened in January 2020. The bar was originally planned to be a cozy, quiet spot inside, but now serves stellar cocktails (starting at $12) on one of the best patios in the city. city, with a semi-private outdoor space, live music, DJs and colorful murals of Irish rock musicians, including Dolores O’Riordan of The Cranberries and Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy.
