San Francisco del Rincón is also a land of legends –

San Francisco del Rincón is a land famous for its hats, its pambazos and although it may not seem like it, its legends. It is no coincidence that the history of witches has been captured in many of its most important emblems, but that is not the only legend that the municipality has. There are many more.

May the last days of October and the first days of November, which are currently celebrated, be the invitation to learn about the most popular legends of San Francisco, and others that have been forgotten. Many of these stories that are passed from generation to generation are found in the book ‘Legends of San Francisco del Rincón’ written by José Antonio Hernández Pacheco.

Surely, after the witches, the best-known legend in San Pancho is that of the ghost that wanders eternally through the Iron Ring building, where the Municipal Historical Archive is currently located, where it was previously a pants factory. As told in the aforementioned book, a beautiful girl named Rebeca died in an industrial accident at the end of the second decade of the 20th century. From that moment on, his ghost wanders around the property.

Every municipality has its own legend of a hacienda in whose soil a hidden treasure is hidden, and San Francisco is no exception. The document by José Antonio Hernández tells that in what are the ruins of the former Hacienda Santiago, a ghost wanders that protects a treasure from the times of the revolution. To this day, as with all legends, nothing has been confirmed.

Another of the legends that are told throughout the planet is that of the Carter of Death. It is a universal trope, which has been addressed from Nobel Prize winner Selma Lagerloff in her novel of the same name to Stephen King in ‘Necessary Things’. It is said that a man on a road appears out of nowhere. In the back, there are hundreds of corpses piled up. It wanders in an ethereal way. There are those who think it is Lucifer, but also those who believe it takes the last soul to the pantheon. According to legends, in San Francisco he appears between Morelos and Nicolás Bravo.
