Juan Francisco and Moisés Sierra took the ball out of the park. André Rienzo and four relievers combined to leave them with just two hits and one run for the Cibao Giants to triumph 4-1.
Despite their defeat, the Eagles continue to lead the standings with four wins and one setback, while the Giants won for the first time, after four losses.
Rienzo (1-0) scored the win starting for the Giants and left after 5.0 innings, in which he allowed a hit, a dirty run, a walk and struck out four. He was replaced by Reymin Guduán (6), Tyler Cyr (7), Ángel de Jesús (8) and Anthony Carter (9), who scored the save.
The loss went to Aguilucho starter Ramón Rossó (0-1), who walked 3.0 innings, giving up two hits, a run, a transfer and struck out one. He was replaced by Mike Devine (4), Sammy Peralta (5), José Cuas (5), Michael Ynoa (6), Jesús Liranzo (7).
The Giants woke up early with a run at the end of the first for Sierra’s homer off starter Rossó.
The Eagles equalized in the fourth when Leody Taveras was transferred, Ramón Torres flied out to shortstop, Orlando Calixte singled for third, and the defender from that position made a throwing error on the play, anchoring Taveras at third. Calixte stole second, and John Nogowski drove the tie with a sacrifice fly to right field.
The francomacorisanos took the lead again in the fifth against reliever Sammy Peralta. After two outs. Hanser Alberto doubled, José Cuas replaced Peralta and Sierra drove him in with a hit.
In the eighth, a home run off Alberto on the trails after being hit by reliever Jose Adames gave the Giants two more runs to make it 4-1.
Sierra and Francisco with a home run and a single and two RBIs each led the Giants, Hanser Alberto a double, Kelvin Gutiérrez a single.
For the Eagles Calixte gave the two hits allowed by the Giants’ pitchers.
