Sofia Kenin and Barbora Krejcikova will play the San Diego Open final. On Saturday, both players won their respective semifinals against Emma Navarro and Danielle Collins. In the first semi-final, Krejcikova fought back from a set down against her American rival. After two hours and 21 minutes, the Czech won 3:6, 7:5, 6:2.
Of the two players, it was Krejcikova who recorded more aces and double faults. The fourth seed hit four aces to Collins’ three and committed seven double faults to her opponent’s five. Krejcikova and Collins finished the match by winning about 48% of their points on second serve, but the eventual winner won 70% of her points on first serve , compared to Collins’ 57%.
The two players created 14 break points between them, seven each on the other’s serve. However, Krejcikova was able to save three of them, while Collins was only able to fend off one break point. The first and decisive sentences were revealing in this respect.
In the first set, Krejcikova couldn’t save any of the two break chances she faced, while in the final set the American couldn’t save any of the three break chances she faced.

Meanwhile, Kenin also needed three sets in her semifinal against Emma Navarro to triumph in this American clash.
It took Kenin two hours and ten minutes to claim a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 victory. Kenin’s performance dipped midway through the match. This, along with Navarro playing her best, resulted in the young qualifier winning the second set and forcing the match into the third set.
However, their own shaky performances in the decider, coupled with Kenin’s rediscovery of form, let her down one last time in the game. The San Diego Open final will be the second meeting between Barbora Krejcikova and Sofia Kenin. The last time they met, in the round of 32 at the 2021 Rome Open, Krejcikova emerged victorious.
