Smoke from burning garbage is a serious problem in the city of San Antonio (Central).
They don’t wait until nightfall to set fire to their waste. In the morning, during the afternoon, at any time, they create a fierce cloud of smoke.
The local municipality launched a strong campaign to end this bad practice.
Mayor Santiago Aguilera launched the message in three languages: “Don’t burn trash. Anive rehapy. Don’t burn.”
Smoke not only pollutes the environment but also affects the health of residents.
“It puts at risk the lives of allergy sufferers and asthmatics who in several cases have already had to be hospitalized due to smoke inhalation,” he said.
They ask to report
Officials are working hard to canvass the neighborhoods to raise awareness and ask people to report the incidents.
Residents can send photos and videos of the garbage burning to WhatsApp (0973) 576-139. They must also send the address, location, and all the information about the person doing it. Anonymity will be maintained.
The fine is up to G. 100 million. In addition, all cases will be referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for “environmental crimes,” they warn.
Burning of grasslands
In Santa Rita, in the Tupa Rendá area, the intense smoke caused a traffic accident yesterday. Two cars collided head-on because they could not see their way. Fortunately, there was only material damage. Grasslands were burned.
Saltos del Guairá has also been living in smoke for several weeks. This is due to the fires in the Amazon region of Brazil. Yesterday, the fire affected the Ilha Grande National Park, between the states of Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul.
