The inhabitants of San Antonio de Lomerío, in Santa Cruz, returned to their ancestral knowledge to face COVID-19. They began to resort to “kutuki”, a medicinal plant with which they make an infusion that was consumed by their grandparents.
“Kutuki was the medicine of our grandparents and young people no longer consumed it because it has a strong taste and smell, but with this disease that appeared and affected many in Chiquitania, we had to find a way to heal ourselves,” said Miguel Parapaino, a Elder chief who, together with his family, decided to produce and pack the macerate.
The Parapaino recipe to obtain a liter of kutuki syrup consists of: 2 kutuki roots, 4 lemon balm leaves, 4 ratico leaves, 2 twigs of paradise, 4 small pieces of copiapo peel, 1 lemon, 3 cloves of garlic , 1 onion head, three centimeters of ginger, 3 sprigs of white wira wira and alcohol.
“A city doctor consumed the syrup and he was the one who encouraged its consumption and production, so many families began to plant kutuki and today in all the houses it has become customary to drink the infusion as part of our daily diet to prevent diseases, especially COVID-19 ”, indicates the producer.
