Deputy Samuel Pérez, in the company of independent deputies from the Semilla bench, announced to the media that even if they disagree, they will no longer participate in the block chiefs’ instance, this by virtue of abiding by the resolution of the Constitutional Court .

This is a measure that opposition deputies approve, as they have repeatedly emphasized that independent deputies cannot participate in such activities.

“The CC resolved again in favor of a minority group in Congress, this time in favor of the representative Nadia de León, daughter of the former presidential candidate who still refuses to recognize her defeat and continues to seek to reverse the electoral result. This resolution is added to the list of actions that the CC grants to the group that has affinity with Sandra Torres, Allan Rodríguez and Alejandro Giammattei,” the congressman explained.

Peréz emphasized that the CC also resolved to dissolve a Board of Directors in Congress that was sovereignly elected: “in its attempt to protect the interests of a decadent political regime, it has restricted the rights to freedom of expression of thought and has caused profound inequality in terms of to the rights of the deputies in Congress and, therefore, to the people of Guatemala that they represent,” he highlighted.

PRESENCE GENERATES “DISCOMFORT”

“It is essential to highlight that this is the first time in the history of democracy that the Court finds the presence of deputies who are not formally recognized as heads or deputy heads of blocks uncomfortable,” Pérez noted.

Likewise, I reiterate that in all previous legislatures, deputies who do not hold this quality and even deputies from canceled political parties have attended.

“We must remember that the origin of the suspension or ignorance of Semilla as a legislative block derives from a coup judge, Fredy Orellana, who has twisted the Law Against Organized Crime to arbitrarily suspend and without possibilities of defense the political party that we represent in a completely fictitious,” said the congressman.

Finally, the deputy questions that such an action is added to the list of protections that the Court has granted to the same group of politicians who demanded to open the electoral polls that still do not recognize the electoral result and that they imposed on the current Attorney General, Head of the coup.

“Once again we are going to prioritize the advancement of the agenda in favor of the people of Guatemala over any other particular interest,” he concluded.
