Soon we will not only meet Samuel L. Jackson’s unmistakable voice in the cinema, but will also be able to talk to the Hollywood star directly. According to the latest reports, he is said to have signed up as the new voice of Alexas, Amazon’s virtual assistance application.
At least in principle: if you take it seriously, Jackson won’t actually speak Alexa’s answers. Instead, Amazon’s “Neural Text-to-Speech” technology is supposed to generate an artificial version of the actor’s voice in order to make the corresponding answers more flexible.
Furthermore, the new option should have some restrictions. Jackson’s voice will not be available for shopping, list or reminder functions or for Alexa skills. The user can choose whether he wants to use a “clean” version without or the “dirty” version with strong expressions.
Officially, the Jackson tuning version should be available for only 90 cents at the end of 2019. With it, Alexa’s range of languages should also be expanded to include some bilingual options. A Spanish-English version is currently available in the USA and a French-English version in Canada. In India, users can also choose a combination of Hindi and English.
After the actor was seen as Nick Fury in three Marvel films as well as in the last part of the “Eastrail 177” trilogy in 2019, his fans can look forward to a number of new Jackson films in the future. Six of them have already been announced. The war drama “The Last Full Measure” is due to appear on October 25, 2019.
