Samsung’s smartphone division gets a new top man – Tablets and phones – News

Samsung’s smartphone division gets Tae-moon Roh as the new top man. He takes over from DJ Koh. Koh continues to lead Samsung’s IT and mobile communications department. Roh has been with the company since 1997 and helped the company establish the Galaxy line.

In a statement that has been recognized by, among others Reuters, Samsung says that Roh should breathe new life into the smartphone department during a fierce competition. Although Samsung is probably still the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, the biggest competitor is Huawei still growing. Counterpoint analyst Tom Kang says that Roh is known for being decisive and will probably be able to respond quickly to the challenge that Huawei’s growth offers.

In recent years, under the leadership of Koh, Samsung has had to cancel a phone twice or postpone the introduction because of major problems. More than three years ago the deliveries of the Note 7 ceased because the batteries could explode and last April the Galaxy Fold was postponed due to the fragility of the foldable device. Samsung announces on 11 February new Galaxy smartphones.
