Samsung has been planning a smart ring for a year now. Although he had it patented already in 2015, so far these were only plans. According to available information, however, the ice is moving and a smart ring from the South Korean technology giant could soon become a reality.
Smart ring from Samsung
The concept of a smart ring is nothing new. The Finnish company Oura, which was founded in 2013, already has the third generation of its smart ring of the same name. It can measure heart rate, physical activity, body temperature, breathing or sleep quality. Samsung has decided to come up with a competing product, it could be called the Galaxy Ring.
Samsung patented the Galaxy Ring trademark earlier this year, but other names such as Galaxy Circle, Samsung Insight or Samsung Index are also in play. The idea behind Samsung’s smart ring was that, in addition to measuring body values and activities, it could also control a smart home. By turning the ring around your finger, it would be possible to dim the lights, or change TV channels and much more.
Currently, an indication that something is happening around the smart ring has been spotted in the beta version of the Samsung Health app. This was noted by one user of the social network Reddit. Although not much is apparent in the app, it seems to confirm that the smart ring should be able to monitor various health functions. Although Samsung has been tight-lipped about its smart ring, we could learn more as part of the launch of the Galaxy Watch 6 smartwatch, which is scheduled for July 26.
