Samsung’s new technology finds devices offline

Samsung unveiled the SmartThings Find feature. Thanks to it, users will be able to find their equipment and accessories using UWB.

Samsung introduces the new SmartThings Find technology to its devices, which is to allow users to find selected devices and accessories without having to connect to Bluetooth. It all uses UWB, i.e. smartphone radio waves to locate individual devices. Unfortunately, at the moment, the whole thing has been limited only to the compatible models of the Korean manufacturer and it is unlikely that SmartThings Find will be extended to other areas.

When the device is offline for 30 minutes, it starts broadcasting a signal that can be picked up by Samsung devices using UWB technology. Samsung promises that all user data is encrypted and securely protected right on the device.

SmartThings Find was only available on the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Z Fold 2. The updated application will be compatible with all Samsung Galaxy devices running Android 8 or later.
