One of Samsung’s internal teams is working on Micro LED displays for watches
For the first time, this type of panel is supposed to appear in the “Galaxy Watch Ultra”
The market for smart wearable electronics is very diverse at the moment, and while previously people mostly bought fitness bracelets for a few hundred, now they have no problem shelling out several thousand crowns for a quality watch. And we probably won’t stop there. After all, Apple introduced its Watch Ultra last year, which launched in the Czech Republic at 24,990 crowns and after a few months, Huawei also responded with the Watch Ultimate. Apparently, Samsung will also want to cut its share of the pie of these expensive watches, as it is to prepare Galaxy Watch Ultra. And we already have the first information about them.
Samsung is reportedly testing Micro LED displays for smart watches and the Galaxy Watch UItra (at the moment it is not clear what they will be officially called) should be a showcase and an inspiration for other manufacturers as well. If they like the panels, they can also use them in their products, so the South Korean company will have even more money in its coffers. Already last year, the company was supposed to establish a special team that was exclusively in charge of these types of displays for smart watches, and it has until the end of this year to complete them.
So we should expect the first watches with this type of display next year. Compared to OLED technology, they have to offer better contrast, but also higher maximum brightness or better energy efficiency, which could have a positive impact on battery life. The technology certainly looks promising, and I wonder if other manufacturers will subsequently borrow it. But we will have to wait for some more information.
Would you spend more than 10 grand on a watch?
