Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Z Fold3 – Test the folding advantage – Tablets and Phones – .Plans

There was a lot of skepticism about foldables, foldable phones and tablets for a long time. Now that Samsung is already launching its third model of the Galaxy Z Fold on Galaxy Z Flip launches, it’s clear that this form factor is here to stay. But what exactly are the advantages of a smartphone that you can fold and unfold? Community members have a unique opportunity to experience this themselves in the Tweakers test panel. Register via the poll at the bottom of the article for an exclusive chance to test the latest launches for yourself.

The history of foldable smartphones is still young; the technology has been around for less than two decades, yet it has developed rapidly.

For example, in 2006 Polymer Vision showed a foldable smartphone-cum-reader (the Readius) at the Mobile World Congress, in 2008 Nokia presented animated concepts of a flexible device (the “Morph”) and in 2011 Kyocera released an Android smartphone with a double touch screen. When folded, the top screen remained facing the user while covering the secondary screen. In 2013, NEC (in Japan) introduced the Medias W where the secondary screen could be folded behind the phone.

The development of thin, flexible OLED displays enabled truly new designs and more manageable form factors. In 2013, Samsung presented several concepts (codenamed Youm) for smartphones with flexible displays. The first Youm concept actually produced was the Galaxy Note Edge – a phablet with a portion of the screen sliding over the right edge. 7 years later, the foldable has a permanent place in the line-up of smartphones from Samsung with two models: the Samsung Galaxy Flip and the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

The advantage of folding according to Samsung

Today, the foldable device market is growing rapidly, and Samsung is eager to take the lead. According to Drew Blackard, vice president, product management at Samsung Electronics America, more than ever, people want phones with the flexibility to seamlessly switch between work, play, share and everything in between. Or “Phones that enable powerful multitasking and immersive entertainment”. Samsung takes the flexibility very literally and the Galaxy Z Flip3 and the Galaxy Z Fold3 respond to that philosophy. Both foldable models but both aimed at a different target group.

The Galaxy Z Flip3 is aimed at Generation Z and the Millennial who like to carry a 6.7-inch cinema in their pocket. The advantage of a large display of a normal smartphone, but the possibility to make it smaller and easy to tuck away. But also, according to several studies by Samsung of the two previous Flip models, hands-free vlogging and taking selfies by folding the Flip down is appreciated.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold3 is the ideal phone for business users whose smartphone is fully integrated with their daily lives. The large screen is consistently praised by users of the two previous iterations for multitasking thanks to multi-displays and related capabilities such as split view. The Z Fold3 allows users to control their phone with two displays in the so-called flex mode. This allows you to use the screen of the device in a folded angle, almost like a laptop. Among other things, you can capture favorite moments in unique ways. In Capture View, the upper display shows a preview of everything they photograph or film, the lower display shows the result that they can immediately share or delete. It is also easy to edit photos and videos so quickly and easily. And with just as much ease, you can fold the phone in half and put your device in your inner pocket.
