Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Pro TWS headphones work for people with hearing loss, new study suggests

Galaxy Buds Pro helps people with mild to moderate hearing loss: research.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro TWS headphones may be effective for people with mild to moderate hearing loss, according to a new study published in Clinical and Experimental Otorhinolaryngology. The study published in the journal ENT indicates that the Ambient Sound feature of Buds Pro helps the ears to hear sounds better in their environment.

This study is the first of its kind where wireless headphones have been evaluated for their clinical performance as a hearing aid and the first to discover that these devices have the potential to help people with mild to moderate hearing impairments.

According to Il Joon Moon, an expert in otolaryngology, by 2050, one in ten people will suffer from hearing loss, but the use of hearing aids to treat hearing loss is low due to high prices. In such a situation, alternative devices such as Buds Pro supporting everyday life are a promising find.

Buds Pro were evaluated under three conditions, Sound Amplification Assessment, Electroacoustic Assessment, and Clinical Performance Assessment. They showed an appropriate level of amplification in sound quality. In the electroacoustic evaluation, they met the four criteria which are the equivalent input noise, the output sound pressure level, the total harmonic distortion, the frequency range. The device also sufficiently amplified the sound at three frequencies of speech pitches.

During the clinical performance review, Galaxy Buds Pro looked at people with the average age of 63. at three pitches of speech, i.e. 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz, 6000 Hz.

Over 57% of participants said that while using Buds Pro, they are able to communicate and listen better in a calm environment.

The Galaxy Buds Pro’s Ambient Sound feature can amplify sounds up to 20 decibels. Users can also adjust and customize the way they experience sound according to their needs.
