The image sensor is the key component of a smartphone that determines the quality of photos and videos. Have you ever wondered why there are 200 MP image sensors in the latest generation smartphones like the Galaxy S23 Ultra? The reason is that the ultra-high resolution image sensors allow you to capture epic moments in great detail. To prove it, Samsung decided to hack a less advanced city photo booth with a 200MP image sensor and take over one of the world’s most iconic billboards.
Samsung created a specially placed photo booth at an iconic location and installed a 200MP movable image sensor in the camera so people could see for themselves how powerful ISOCELL sensors can be and how detailed photos taken with these sensors. At Piccadilly Circus (London), the photo booth displayed a printout to photo takers that read: “Look up.” As they walked out of the booth, they saw their ultra-high-resolution photo displayed on an epic 150 by 60-foot billboard in Piccadilly Circus. Amazingly, when the photos were enlarged on the billboard, they showed 200-megapixel photo quality: all the real details of her eyes, hair, and skin.
See in the video how this feat was accomplished.
“This is my face captured by the 200 megapixel Samsung ISOCELL mobile image sensor and sent directly to the giant screens at London’s Piccadilly Circus. This is what smartphones will be capable of“, said GadgetsBoy while attendees discovered the true power of ultra-high-resolution cameras and saw how more pixels on an image sensor translate into more detailed photos. Furthermore, as the experience took place on one of the most iconic billboards in the world, attendees also stated that it was the once-in-a-lifetime moment they had dreamed of and its contents went viral on social media.
In addition, Samsung brought the Piccadilly experience to the big screen again this year with the Galaxy S23 Ultra with ISOCELL HP2. The creators attended the experiential event and had their photos taken at the Piccadilly Circus photo booth on April 15 and 16. Samsung also hosted a 200MP photo contest in the US and UK, where winners saw their winning ultra-high-resolution 200MP photo live on the big screen and a copy of the footage was also shared with the winners. who could not attend.
