Samsung works on windows with artificial sunlight

Samsung has just announced support for five new start-ups from its C-Lab program. Among them, we find SunnyFive, a company that develops a false window generating artificial light.

Created in December 2012, the C-Lab incubator has since been the cradle of many innovative ideas. And when one of them pleases Samsung enough, the Korean giant bets to support it, to facilitate its launch.

The benefits of the Sun … Without its drawbacks

Today, Samsung support goes to SunnyFive, formerly known as SunnySide. Inspired by the light therapy provided to people suffering from what can be called ” seasonal affective disorder ”, Or a very strong winter depression, the product offered by this start-up manages to reproduce the characteristics of natural light. It thus constitutes an intake of vitamins D, without the harmful effects of the Sun.

The moment seems perfectly chosen to launch such a product, while the world is going through a pandemic period upsetting everyone’s habits and forcing them to stay more at home.

Much more than a simple lamp, the light produced by the SunnyFive window changes throughout the day to reproduce the cycle of the Sun. The system includes different scenarios, reproducing the evolution of light from sunrise to dawn, then from dusk to sunset.

An application can also adjust the brightness and the color temperature of the window.

The SunnyFive project is expected to be incorporated into Samsung’s smart home system. So we should learn more about how it works in the future.

Hard to say if the product will break through

Although this artificial light generator is promising, it is difficult to say whether it will convince users.

Among the 45 start-ups supported by Samsung since the beginnings of C-Lab, none has yet experienced a dazzling success, except Welt, a smart belt who was the talk of the day in 2016, but we don’t really hear about today …

Note that in addition to SunnyFive, Samsung has announced support for the Hyler smart highlighter, the Haxby note service, the Blockbuster video editing application and finally, RootSensor, a sensor capable of recording daily exposure to UV.
