Samsung uses battery pull strip in Galaxy S23 phones – Tablets and phones – News

Hopefully this will also come to the regular market someday.

It’s quite funny to read something like that, I understand that it’s specifically about Samsung, but replaceable batteries and even covers were once a unique selling point for phones. I remember the Nokia Lumia 735 where you could replace the covers. Did you have an orange one day, green, blue, black or white the next day. Everything was possible and that was part of the marketing campaign. The battery underneath was just completely loose and you could replace it.

The sturdiness was not at all compromised and the range was always excellent due to the material. There was also just wireless charging incorporated. Watertight would also have been technically possible.

But no, in a time when sustainability is relevant, we are going to glue batteries. Just really stupid, greedy and short-sighted. But that is what commercial companies do, the euro/dollar is everything. Disappointing weather.
