Samsung to Right an Injustice with Upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7

Rumors of a second version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 are getting more specific and are accompanied by some of its features. From what we know, Samsung’s foldable smartphone will finally become the best of what the brand has to offer, even when it comes to photography.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has only been available since July, and yet it already looks set to undergo an overhaul. Clearly, Samsung hasn’t reached the end of its rope with its latest foldable smartphone, and is working hard to bring us a second version that could overshadow its rather convincing Chinese rivals.

Indeed, selon Evan Blass via Xthe device should finally benefit from a photo sensor that matches its price. This well-placed informant claims that the next Galaxy Z Fold 6 will have a 200 Mpx main sensor instead of the 50 Mpx found on the version currently on the market. This could potentially be the same component as its Galaxy S24 Ultra counterpart, which costs… 600 euros less.

While this information should be taken with a pinch of salt, it still seems appropriate enough to justify the development of this second version. Moreover, still according to Evan Blassthis one will not be titled “Slim” or “Ultra”, but rather “Special Edition”. A special edition that would therefore respond to one of the most negative aspects of the Z Fold 6, at least when compared to its non-folding counterpart.

A folding smartphone that no longer has much to envy the competition

Samsung looks set to have a little more fun with the Z Fold 6 Special Edition. Indeed, our source claims that it will be thinner than the basic versionwith a thickness of 10.6 mm when folded and 4.9 mm when opened. In total, it is 1.5 mm less than the Z Fold 6, but it is also dangerously close to the Honor Magic V3 and its total thickness unfolded of 4.35 mm. The device will therefore be “slim”, but not in its name.

Finally, the cherry on the cake is that this new model will have larger screens. From 7.6 and 6.3 inches for the base version, the Z Fold 6 Special Edition will go to 8 and 6.5 inches, making it the largest folding smartphone in the world at the moment. While this is a rather welcome improvement at first glance, one can however wonder what impact this will have on the autonomy of the device, as very well pointed out our colleagues at PhoneArena. Especially since with a smaller thickness, it is not certain that a larger battery can be installed.

It also remains to be seen what the impact will be on the price. The Z Fold 6 is already not very affordable, and there is a strong fear that the price of the special edition will be particularly high. At least, for the consumers concerned, since as we recently explained to you, the device seems to be primarily intended for the Chinese and South Korean markets.
