Samsung to add Galaxy AI to its Galaxy A55 and A35

The first mid-range Galaxy will benefit from Galaxy AI

Quoting anonymous sources, SamMobile reports that Samsung is planning to roll out Galaxy AI to the Galaxy A55 ( review ) and Galaxy A35 ( review ). These features are expected to be added via the One UI 6.1.1 update, which is expected to be released this month or in September, depending on how quickly Samsung can roll out the firmware.

If this comes to fruition, the Galaxy A55 and A35 will be the first Samsung mid-range smartphones to take advantage of the company’s generative AI features. However, the outlet noted that only some Galaxy AI features will be enabled due to the SoC limitation in these devices, which is not surprising.

It’s not yet clear which of these features will be retained, but it’s safe to say that Galaxy AI’s Circle to Search feature, AI photo editing, and live translation will be included, as on the Galaxy S23 FE ( review ). On the other hand, tools that rely on intensive processing, such as slow motion and generative image creation, could very likely be excluded.

Surprisingly, despite the presence of several older Galaxy A models equipped with the same SoC as the two mentioned models, such as the Galaxy A54 (review) sharing the same Exynos 1380 SoC, these devices will not have Galaxy AI. It has also not been specified whether there are plans to support them in the future.

Despite this, Galaxy AI is already available on a wide range of Samsung Galaxy devices, including older tablets and foldable smartphones. In addition to the current list, Samsung is expected to add other AI features that debuted with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 ( review ) and Galaxy Z Flip 6 ( review ), such as Draw Assist and Portrait Studio.
