Samsung Study Reveals Growing Percentage of Swedish Gamers, Breaking Stereotypes

On behalf of Samsung, Sifo has investigated what percentage of Swedes are gamers – and to what extent they play video and computer games.

The report shows, among other things, that 44 percent of the Swedish population usually gambles every week. In the age group 18–29, the figure rises to a whopping 76 percent.

The study also breaks the image of gamers as single men. While 25 percent of those who play say they are single and live alone, 28 percent of them are married.

However, it is still mainly men who are the most dedicated players, as 16 percent of men play at least ten hours a week. Among women, the figure is six percent, and 35 percent of all Swedish gamers are women.

In the target group of young men, almost a quarter are devoted gamers.

Entertainment and everyday escape

Those surveyed in the study state that entertainment is the main reason for gaming, while relaxation is a close second, followed by the view of gaming as a way to escape everyday life.

The study also shows that a larger percentage of “hardcore gamers” play on PC, while those who play on consoles are more “casual” and are not as dedicated to gaming.

In the report, 1,000 Swedes aged 18–79 were asked.
