Although there is still no official confirmation, nor prototypes or revelations about the presence of a new gadget in the Samsung family, this possibility has been talked about for some time. And the company’s latest moves seem to confirm these rumours.
A saga of mysterious records
Samsung has been active in registering several brands, some of which suggest the creation of new wearable devices. Recently, the UK Intellectual Property Office granted Samsung registration for the trademarks “Samsung Circle”, “Samsung Index” and “Samsung Insight”. There are those who believe that these names are related to a possible smart ring, augmented reality glasses or devices focused on monitoring physical activity.
The company did not stop there and also registered in South Korea the brands “Galaxy One”, “Galaxy Pulse” and “Galaxy Rythm”. These designations suggest devices that could be used to measure movement during musical or physical activity.
A step further in wearables
The images released indicate that Samsung has applied for the registration of these marks for the category of “smart rings, smart watches, smartphones and laptops”. In the South Korean register, the description is even more specific, including “wearable devices such as smart rings, bracelets, necklaces and glasses”.
Sources in South Korea claim that Samsung is preparing a smart ring and that these six marks may represent not only the name of the device, but also the names of the software or features that will accompany it.
According to the documentation presented by Samsung, the smart ring would have an application capable of tracking, collecting, detecting, recognizing and monitoring biometric and physiological data. This application would also allow transmitting and managing this data, creating personal health records and vital signs to provide preliminary medical advice.
The names Circle, Index and Insight could be references to the gadget itself, that is, the ring. Meanwhile, One, Pulse and Rythm could refer to applications or software features to leverage the use of the smart ring.
