Samsung SDS announced on the 22nd that it signed a business agreement (MOU) with ANSYS Korea, an engineering simulation software company, to expand its cloud business and strengthen competitiveness.
ANSYS Korea is the Korean branch of ANSYS, the world’s No. 1 company in the US *CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) simulation software field. The company’s simulation software is an essential solution for improving product performance and shortening development periods in manufacturing industries such as automobiles, energy, defense, and semiconductors.
* CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering): Engineering simulation that uses computing resources to interpret/predict phenomena with higher accuracy
Under this agreement, Samsung SDS will provide the GPU-centric AI cloud infrastructure of the Samsung Cloud Platform (SCP), and Ansys Korea will provide CAE solutions in this optimized environment while also providing technical support and training.
Additionally, the two companies plan to collaborate closely to provide users with easy access to ANSYS solutions as SaaS services through the SCP Marketplace.
In particular, ANSYS Korea expects that it will be possible to dramatically improve simulation speed compared to the previous CPU environment by utilizing the subscription GPU service (GPUaaS) of Samsung Cloud Platform (SCP) while also shortening the product development cycle. By using the GPU provided by SCP, a week’s worth of computations can be performed in a day, and computation speed can be expected to improve by at least 5 times and up to about 33 times.
Both companies plan to conduct a technical suitability assessment (PoC) to build and optimize cloud-based solution provision services, and plan to jointly discover and sell businesses by combining the technologies and resources of both companies with the goal of expanding the cloud business.
Park Joo-il, CEO of Ansys Korea, said, “The combination of Ansys’ simulation software and Samsung SDS’ high-performance cloud resources will contribute to stable speed improvement and the advancement of complex systems required in next-generation battlefield areas such as defense, aviation, and space.” “In the future, we will be able to expand our business area into a service-type business utilizing the cloud,” he said.
“This business agreement will go beyond simple technical cooperation and become an example of business innovation for manufacturing companies through cloud-based services,” said Hyung-jun Koo, vice president and head of Samsung SDS’ cloud service division. “Samsung SDS’ cloud technology and ANSYS’ solution know-how “Through the combined services, we will not only improve the productivity and efficiency of the entire product development cycle, but also cooperate in providing cloud-based services to the aerospace and defense industries, which are growing rapidly in the global market.”
