Jakarta –
Launching Samsung Galaxy S23 The series is only counting the days and rumors have emerged regarding its successor. Reportedly, next year Samsung will only launch two variants Galaxy S24.
As is known, Samsung always releases three variants of the Galaxy S every year, namely the standard, Plus and Ultra variants. However, South Korean media The Elec reports that the Galaxy S24 will only be available in standard and Ultra variants, while the Plus variant will be absent.
According to the report, Samsung’s development project for the Galaxy S24 series is known internally as the ‘DM’ code. The Elec managed to find two projects namely DM1 and DM3, but DM2 was not there.
The Elec also speculates that DM1 refers to the Galaxy S24 and DM3 is the code for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Since the DM2 code was not found, they concluded that Samsung canceled the Galaxy S24+.
The Elec assumed Samsung was actually planning DM2 development but canceled it shortly after. Since the launch of the Galaxy S24 series is still a year away, Samsung will probably continue development on the DM2.
Samsung’s plan to cancel the Galaxy S24+ variant seems to be influenced by the current condition of the cellphone market. The Elec gave an example of the iPhone 14 Plus which was not selling well because consumers preferred the most affordable or the most premium variant.
However, The Elec’s report was immediately refuted by tipster Roland Quandt. Quandt said via Twitter that DM or ‘diamond’ is a code for the Galaxy S23 series, isn’t it Galaxy S24.
“This article is wrong. DM1/DM2/DM3 are “diamonds” aka S23 series, not S24. There is plenty of evidence that they exist,” Quandt said in a tweet, as quoted from Phone Arena, Thursday (12/1/2023).
“To say S24+ isn’t here just because you can’t find “DM2″ wherever you look is just bad research,” he continued.
Aside from the rumors about his absence Galaxy S24+The Elec also reports that Samsung is considering reducing the number of variants of the Galaxy A. The vendor from South Korea will reportedly kill the Galaxy A2 model, leaving the Galaxy A1, A3 and A5.
Samsung itself is preparing to launch the Galaxy S23 series on February 1 through the Galaxy Unpacked event. The three newest flagship phones from Samsung will be introduced at this event, namely the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra.
