Samsung presents three chips for the automotive sector

In particular the Exynos Auto T5123 for 5G and the Exynos Auto V7 for in-car infotainment systems.

Samsung Electronics unveils three new automotive chips: the Exynos Auto T5123 for 5G connectivity, the Exynos Auto V7 for in-car infotainment systems, and the PMIC (power management integrated circuits) S2VPS01 ASIL-B certified for the Auto V series.

Jaehong Park, Executive Vice President of System LSI Custom SOC Business at Samsung Electronics, said: “Smarter, more connected automotive technologies for enriched in-car experiences, including entertainment, safety and comfort, are becoming essential features on the road. With an advanced 5G modem, an AI-enhanced multi-core processor and a market proven PMIC solution, Samsung is transferring its expertise in mobile solutions into its automotive range and positioning itself to expand its presence in this area. “

Exynos Auto T5123: 5G for vehicles

Samsung presents its Exynos Auto T5123 as “A 3GPP Release 15 telematics control unit specially designed to bring 5G connectivity in autonomous (SA) and non-autonomous (NSA) mode to the next generation of connected cars”. According to the company, it provides information to the vehicle in real time at a speed of up to 5.1 Git / s. The goal: to enable passengers to enjoy services such as streaming high definition content and video calling on the go.

Samsung says the Exynos Auto T5123 uses “A high speed PCIe interface” without specifying which one “And a high performance low power LPDDR4x mobile DRAM”. The chip has two Cortex-A55 CPU cores. It is currently in mass production.

Exynos Auto V7: a processor for IVI systems

The Exynos Auto V7 is a processor for on-board infotainment systems. It incorporates eight Arm Cortex-A76 CPU cores clocked at 1.5 GHz, an 11-core Mali G76 GPU as well as an uncharacterized NPU. The V7 works with LPDDR4x memory, up to 32 GB. In practice, it supports up to four displays and 12 camera inputs.

Samsung specifies that the Exynos Auto V7 is currently in mass production and that it will be used in particular for the ICAS 3.1 (In-Car Application-Server) of Volkswagen.

We won’t dwell on the S2VPS01, an ASIL-B certified power management IC for the Exynos Auto V9 and V7 series. You can find all the information about it and go into more detail about the other chips by consulting the source.
