Samsung presents 8K television with hardly any screen edges NOW

Samsung has shown new televisions on Sunday evening at the CES technology fair in Las Vegas. This includes a new 8K TV with very thin edges around the screen and a TV with a 292-inch screen.

The Q950 has a screen-to-body ratio of 99 percent, according to the South Korean manufacturer. Edges around the screen only measure 2.3 millimeters and are hardly visible anymore.

The television uses artificial intelligence to raise videos in lower resolution to 8K. The TV also registers the light in the viewer’s room and adjusts the brightness of the screen accordingly.

Speakers are placed on the back of the television. With artificial intelligence, for example, voices in films can be adjusted, so that actors are better understood.

It is not yet known when the television will come on the market and at what price.

Turning TV comes on the market outside of South Korea

Samsung also announced the release of its new Sero television outside of South Korea. Earlier this year the company already presented the screen, which can be used both horizontally and vertically.

That comes in handy when people want to play their mobile videos in a standing recording on TV, without seeing black bars on the sides. “We always keep our phone vertical, which has changed how we make and consume images,” says Samsung.

Streaming mobile images to the TV can be done via an NFC connection by tapping the phone against the TV. In addition to videos, the Sero can also display web pages and play games on them.

Whether the television will come to the Netherlands is not yet known. No prizes have been announced yet.

A 292 inch television

Samsung also showed a new version of microled TV The Wall. The television is now also available in a 292-inch format (a screen diagonal of 7.4 meters). This is the largest version so far. The company also showed a 150-inch version with 8K resolution.

Two years ago, Samsung presented its first microled TV on CES. This variant of The Wall was 146 inches tall at the presentation. Like OLED, Microled has pixels that light up and can be switched off for deeper black values. The technology would have the advantage that the image burns in less quickly than with OLED.

It is not clear when The Wall is available in the large format and at what price.
