Samsung patents gesture control on foldable smartphone

A Samsung patent reveals that the company is thought to be working on a new foldable phone concept that uses dedicated function keys and gestures.

Samsung worked hard to make foldable phone Becomes mainstream by making it more affordable. The reason is that their upcoming folding device is expected to be priced lower when compared to its predecessor. Apart from price, features and functionality also play a major role in making the phone popular and Samsung has a few tricks up its sleeve.

Earlier this month, a Samsung patent revealed that the company was thought to be working on a new foldable phone concept that uses special programmable function keys and gestures. The illustration is submitted along with the patent instructions on the possible position of the buttons as well as the expansion of the features to cell phone folding style.

Reported from Gizmochina (20/7), although not explicitly stated, the button is thought to be physical but implied through the user’s gesture control. “In one embodiment, the motion input signal may be associated with finger movement (such as a finger movement pattern). For example, a sliding motion input signal can be generated through a similar motion”, says Samsung.

In another example, Samsung noted the swipe gesture (swipe) may be a finger movement in the open state of the phone which involves touching a certain part of the first side surface. This sliding motion allows a key input signal to be generated sequentially via the main edge switch set on the first side surface, and this key input signal can be recognized as a sliding motion input signal.
