Samsung Officially Launches Isocell HP2 200 MP Sophisticated Camera Sensor – All Pages

Samsung officially launched its newest camera sensor Isocell HP2 which is 200 Megapixel (MP).

Isocell HP2 carries the latest pixel technology to produce more detailed and beautiful images.

Isocell HP2 has 200 million pixels measuring 0.6μm in 1/1.3″ optical format, a sensor size that is widely used in the 108 MP main camera on smartphones today.

The advantage is that users can feel a larger camera resolution without a bulge where the camera is on the back of a bigger smartphone and looks more elegant and simple.

“Samsung uses high-resolution image sensor technology to create detailed images on Isocell HP2,” said JoonSeo Yim (Executive Vice President of Sensor Business Team, Samsung Electronics).

Not only that, Samsung has also embedded the latest Tetra2pixel pixel binning technology into Isocell HP2. The technology makes the camera better at simulating different pixel sizes to capture images at different lighting levels.

As an illustration, the sensor will adapt to a 1.2μm 50 MP or 2.4μm 12.5 MP image sensor by binding 4 to 16 pixels closest to it in low-light conditions.

Record 8K Video

The Isocell HP2 sensor can also record 8K resolution video at 30 fps (frames per second). For 8K recording, the Isocell HP2 will use the 1.2μm 50 MP mode to capture more in one frame.

If the shooting conditions are too bright (overexposed), Isocell HP2 has Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG) technology which can reduce overexposure and increase the maximum pixel capacity by up to 33 percent.

“D-VTG technology is able to improve color reproduction, including in brightly lit conditions,” he said.

The Isocell HP2 sensor is also capable of providing sharp and even auto-focus in low-light conditions. Super QPD technology will combine the pixels in a certain area to recognize changes in focus, and provide auto-focus that is faster and more accurate.

Samsung also embedded Isocell HP2 with the Dual Slope Gain (DSG) feature for the first time in 50 MP mode.

The DSG feature is able to provide two different brightness level conversion values (high and low) via the analog signal received by the pixels to display more detail and minimize blur.

The Isocell HP2 camera sensor is intended for flagship smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Series which will launch on February 1, 2023 US time or February 2, 2023 at 01.00 WIB.
