Samsung and repair company LetMeRepair have notified customers of a ransomware attack and data breach on Servilux servers. Servilux was a repairer of electronics on behalf of Samsung in the Netherlands and Belgium.
According to LetMeRepair, which acquired Servilux last month, the criminals got their hands on the name, phone number, address and details of the repaired product with the ransomware attack. Customers received a text message on Thursday evening with a warning to watch out for phishing.
The company says that the attack comes from the Vice Society group, about which Microsoft previously published. It threatened to put data on its own dark website if the company did not pay a ransom. That happened on January 6, when Vice Society published data from manufacturers, dealers, employees and customers of Servilux. This may also include customer data. “As part of the ongoing investigation, we will determine the exact nature of the data.”
The attack was limited to servers of Servilux and has not spread to those of LetMeRepair, the company reports. It is unknown why the company has only now, weeks after the discovery and publication of data, notified customers. Servilux was a repairer in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg who repaired electronics from Samsung, among others, under warranty.
