Samsung May Reveal AR Glasses, Following Meta Orion

Samsung Eyes the Future with AR Glasses: Will They Rival Meta and Apple?

Samsung isn’t just focused on smartphones anymore. Whispers are circulating that the tech giant is developing AR glasses, potentially throwing its hat into the ring against tech behemoths Meta and Apple. Rumors suggest Samsung could unveil these innovative glasses at its annual Unpacked event in January.

Insiders from the Korean outlet Yonhap News (translated from Korean) say these AR glasses could boast features like contactless payments, gesture recognition, and facial recognition. While promising, these features raise privacy concerns, as any camera connected to the internet could potentially pose a risk.

Interestingly, Samsung seems to be collaborating with Google and Qualcomm on this project, hinting at the possibility of Snapdragon processors and Google’s Gemini AI model powering the glasses. Google already integrates its AI assistant into its Pixel Buds Pro 2, so expanding that capability to glasses seems like a logical next step.

But don’t expect a market-ready product just yet. These initial glasses might be prototypes, similar to Meta’s Orion AR glasses unveiled in September.

"Where the hell is Ballie?"

This isn’t Samsung’s only foray into wearable technology. Earlier this year, they released the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Ring, both designed to complement Samsung phones. Expect the AR glasses to follow suit, seamlessly integrating with the Samsung ecosystem.

This move is strategically timed. Samsung is likely aiming to steal a march on Apple, which is also reportedly developing its own smart glasses.

"Samsung has a new penchant for wearables, especially after this year’s new [Galaxy Watch Ultra] and [Galaxy Ring]."

While the tech world awaits Samsung’s innovations, some fondly remember the surprisingly popular Ray-Ban Meta glasses, a $300 pair boasting built-in cameras. Meta continues to refine its AI capabilities for these glasses.

As the battle for the future of wearable tech heats up, Samsung’s entry could shake things up. January’s Unpacked event will be an exciting moment, offering a glimpse into what promises to be a revolutionary new product. Until then, one question lingers: "Where the hell is Ballie?" Maybe, just maybe, Samsung’s lovable rollable robot will make an appearance at CES this year.
