Samsung may cancel Galaxy S21 FE release

Online launch event for Galaxy S21 FE has been cancelled. Samsung is considering canceling the release entirely. All focus goes to the Galaxy S22 series.

Last year, Samsung released a Fan Edition of the Galaxy S-serie. From Samsung Galaxy S20 FE became mega popular immediately after its release, so the smartphone offered relatively good value for money. Partly for this reason, Galaxy fans have been looking forward to its successor for some time. Initially, the introduction of the Galaxy S21 FE scheduled for August. During the Galaxy Unpacked event that took place last month, however, this device was not discussed.

However, a series of other Samsung mobile devices were announced; the Galaxy Z Flip 3 on Galaxy Z Fold 3 foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Watch 4 on Watch 4 Classic smartwatches and the Galaxy Buds 2 Earbuds. Many assumed last month that Samsung would postpone the release of the S21 FE to October – which would correspond to the introduction of the S20 FE.

There have even been stories going around that the Galaxy S21 FE will be on store shelves from October 29. Several retailers had already listed the device on their website. In the meantime, however, there have also been increasing rumors that the new phone model will be launched in fewer markets than before – the main reason being the persistent chip shortages.

Unfortunately, the Dutch saying ‘from postponement comes adjustment’ now seems to apply here. Because although the Samsung S21 FE has now received all the necessary certificates and is actually ready to be released, the South Korean manufacturer seems to refrain from introducing it.

Samsung S21 FE is likely to be cancelled

A Samsung spokesperson would tell the South Korean medium DDaily have said that the online event of the Galaxy S21 FE, which was scheduled for media October, has been canceled. It then adds that “the release of this smartphone model will be reviewed.” In other words, there is a real chance that no Fan Edition of the Galaxy S21 will ever appear.

The sales of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 run better than expected. In addition, the company is now fully engaged in the development of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. A lot is expected from this new line-up. There appear to be three models in the pipeline, with release scheduled for January 2022.

It is possible that the introduction of the S22 series will even take place on December 29, 2021. In that case, there would be very little time between the introduction of the relatively cheap Galaxy S21 FE and the new Galaxy S22 line-up. So it is not inconceivable that Samsung will forgo a Fan Edition this year, just as no Galaxy Note 21 was released this year.

Instead, all arrows will be focused on the new model range for 2022. It concerns the successors of the Galaxy S21, S21 More on S21 Ultra. However, it remains to be seen whether the new trio will also be listed under the model names Galaxy S22, S22 More on S22 Ultra be placed on the market.

Rumor has it that the Plus model will be renamed Galaxy S22 Pro. The new Ultra model may not be put away at all within the Galaxy S series, this device is reportedly being sold under the model name Galaxy Note 22 Ultra released.

Although it is still early speculation, it seems to be a logical step for Samsung to merge the release of the Galaxy S and Note series. After all, there has been doubt for a long time about the survival of the Note series, especially now that there are several Samsung smartphones are compatible with the S Pen – remember the Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

However, Samsung has always denied that the Note series has come to an end. The company is well aware that the Note line-up can count on a series of regular fans. In this way, both the S and Note series can continue to exist and Samsung retains the space in the second half of the year to pay attention to the Galaxy Z series – within which the foldable smartphones of the brand – and possibly from next year also the oprolbare on pullout smartphones.
