Samsung Launches ISOCELL HP2 Sensor, 200 MP Power

JawaPos.com – Samsung has officially announced its newest 200 megapixel camera sensor called the Samsung ISOCELL HP2. The camera sensor for this premium smartphone is claimed to come with enhanced pixel technology and full capacity for stunning mobile images.

The company has also revealed that the 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP2 camera sensor has now entered mass production. This hints that it could be equipped with the upcoming flagship smartphone of the Galaxy S23 series.

The HP2 ISOCELL camera sensor packs 200 million 0.6 micrometer (micron) pixels in a 1/1.3-inch optical format, the sensor size widely used in 108-megapixel main smartphone cameras. Thanks to this, customers will be able to produce higher resolution in the latest high-end smartphones without a bigger camera bump in the device.

This camera sensor is also claimed to be able to accommodate various levels of lighting with its Tetra2pixel. In low-light environments, the sensor changes to a 1.2μm 50 megapixel or 2.4 micron 12.5 megapixels by bonding four to 16 neighboring pixels.

For 8K videos, at around 33-megapixels, the sensor switches to 1.2-micron 50-megapixel mode to minimize cropping, while 8K videos at 30 frames per second, a wide field of view and larger pixel sizes can produce sharp, cinematic videos.

Samsung is also introducing the DSG feature for the first time in 50 megapixel mode, which applies two different conversion values to the received analog signal at the pixel level. There’s also Smart-ISO Pro, an HDR solution that combines multiple ISO levels from a single exposure, allowing the camera to shoot 12.5 megapixel stills and 4K video at 60fps in HDR.

The sensor uses Super QPD in low-light environments where all 200 million pixels are used for the focusing agent to produce faster and more accurate autofocusing.

Technically, the camera’s new sensor is also said to be capable of fast autofocusing, and the new Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG) technology can also reduce washed out images from brightly lit environments.

While the company has confirmed that the ISOCELL HP2 sensor has entered mass production, Samsung has yet to reveal the shipping date nor the list of smartphones that will feature this new sensor. However, it will most likely be equipped with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 series launching in a few weeks.
