Samsung and AMD are currently testing ready-made Exynos chips with integrated RDNA 2 graphics. According to unofficial sources, this solution should be almost a third faster than the Mali-G78 integrated in the Galaxy S21 Ultra with SoC Exynos 2100. 20-30%, which is a bit higher than in the case of Mali G78, but regardless, it achieves higher performance.
Samsung seems satisfied with the result (since it is the first modern integrated ultra-mobile graphics since the sale of the Imageon division, AMD may also be satisfied) and discusses the possibility of further cooperation. Specifically, the words “contract for the AMD mRDNA successor architecture” were used, which could indicate that these solutions will be more than just a transfer of the desktop architecture to the mobile world, but are likely to include custom optimizations for mobile deployments.
Considering that mobile RDNA 2 will appear on the market in the form of Samsung phones about a year after the desktop, we could expect a mobile version of RDNA 3 in about 2023, a year after the expected release of RDNA 3, which is planned for the second half of 2022.
