Samsung is used to playing with big numbers for its high-end smartphones. After calming down a few years ago, the brand is back with the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
RAM, a divisive subject at Samsung
When we talk about the technical characteristics of a smartphone, we often mention the size and quality of the screen, the design, the cameras, or even the power of the processor. However, One of the most important, and often overlooked, elements is RAM.

RAM, like the processor, is often the component that allows manufacturers of budget smartphones to save money on their models. Less RAM in a phone is easier to hide than a smaller screen. On the other hand, on the high-end side, a large amount of RAM is a selling point. Samsung understood this well, and was one of the first Android manufacturers to add more and more RAM.
After bumping up to 16GB of RAM on the Galaxy S20 Ultra (twice as much as a base MacBook Air!), Samsung has decided to move to 12GB on the S21 Ultra, focusing more on optimization.
The S25 Ultra goes back to 16 GB of RAM?
Because yes, the RAM race is all well and good, but we must not forget the importance of software optimization. Let’s take Apple as an example: iPhones never went above 8GB of RAM, half of what Samsung Galaxy offered.
And if an iPhone works just as well as an Android smartphone in terms of RAM, it is because the memory is optimized to the smallest detail in terms of software. Apple has control over the hardware and software. Owner and creator of iOS, the company can put 6 or 8 GB of RAM, and everything works well.
Optimization is good, but Samsung seems to want to reconnect with its passion for big numbers by integrating 16 GB of RAM into the future Galaxy S25 Ultra.Expected for early 2025, Samsung’s flagship smartphone wants to put all the chances on its side.
In addition to the amount of RAM, the Sammobile website also informs us that The S25 Ultra is expected to get more powerful RAM, moving to LPDDR6 technology.
