Hanoi (VNA) – Samsung Vietnam, which has six factories with around 130,000 employees, plans to expand its investments with the establishment of a research and development (R&D) center, attracted by the country’s attractiveness factors .

For Samsung, Vietnam is not only a major global production stronghold, but also a strategic research and development stronghold, said Samsung Vietnam chief executive Choi Joo Ho in a recent report. interview with the daily “Tuôi tre” (Youth).

Samsung Vietnam has started investing with Samsung Electronics Vietnam (SEV) since 2008. So far, we have disbursed 100% of approved capital totaling $ 17.5 billion for six factories built across the country, maintaining annually hundreds of millions of dollars in additional investment, he said.

Samsung Vietnam had set a target of exporting around $ 58.5 billion worth of electronics in 2019 and more than $ 60 billion in 2020.

But its sales fell in the first half of 2020 under the shock of the Covid-19 pandemic, before rebounding in the second half under the effect of pent-up demands for electronic products.

Therefore, in 2000, Samsung Vietnam achieved an export turnover of around $ 57 billion, a fairly positive result in the context of the health crisis, and it is gratifying that there is no no employees with contract suspension or unpaid leave, argued Choi Joo Ho.

In the times to come, we will expand our investments with the creation of the Research and Development Center (R&D), and will strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese companies, participate in public infrastructure projects … from Samsung Vietnam.

In March of 2020, Samsung started construction of a new R&D center in Hanoi. Once completed by the end of December 2022, it will be Samsung Electronics’ first R&D center abroad and the largest R&D center in Southeast Asia.

There will be research carried out on many advanced technologies that are expected to elevate the position of Vietnam and Samsung in the international arena, thus creating the right conditions for Vietnam to be ahead of the changes of Industrial Revolution 4.0.

The process of building this new R&D center will create around 180,000 jobs. The amount paid to Vietnamese entrepreneurs is around 1.600 billion VND. This will have a direct effect on Hanoi’s economic growth. The new R&D center would be commissioned in 2023. – VNA
