[이데일리 이성기 기자] The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 22nd (local time) that Samsung Electronics is considering building a semiconductor plant in Texas, Arizona, or New York State by investing up to 17 billion dollars (about 18 trillion won).

The WSJ quoted an insider of the company, saying, “We have two in mind for the site of the new semiconductor plant, near Phoenix in Arizona and Austin in Texas, as well as an industrial complex in Genesh County in western New York.
The official told WSJ that “an important variable in the investment plan depends on what incentives the US federal government will offer.”
According to a letter exchanged between Samsung Electronics and Goodyear (Arizona) city authorities examined by WSJ, Samsung plans to employ 1,900 people with the goal of starting operation in October 2022. For large industrial projects, the City of Goodyear usually provides incentives such as tax cuts and infrastructure expansion.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Samsung Electronics plans to expand its semiconductor plant in Texas by investing more than 10 billion dollars.
