Samsung Introduces ISOCELL Zoom Anyplace: The Latest Video Feature for the 200 M Camera

KOMPAS.com – South Korean electronics company Samsung introduces “ISOCELL Zoom Anyplace”, the latest video feature for the 200 M camera.

This feature is designed to make it easier for the 200 MP Isocell camera sensor made by Samsung to record while tracking moving subjects, including when recording in zoom-in conditions.

This Zoom Anyplace feature is said to have been developed for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra flagship cellphone which is believed to launch in January 2024.

Record, zoom, track moving subjects

With Zoom Anyplace, users can select the desired moving subject within the camera frame. Then, the 200 MP camera will automatically track it, maintain focus, and film it.

Samsung claims that the Zoom Anyplace video feature is able to track subjects with fast movement.

This is a new video feature. The reason is, so far, users have to focus on the subject and move the cellphone to follow the subject’s movements when recording their own video.

Samsung says this feature allows users to take videos with less screen shake, because the feature automatically tracks moving subjects.

This Zoom Anyplace feature also applies when recording video in an enlarged condition. Samsung claims that the videos taken will still have a high resolution of up to 4K, even when zoomed. This is thanks to in-sensor zoom technology from Tetra2pixel.

Samsung previously revealed that with digital zoom, if the area of ​​interest (ROI) is enlarged 4x in 12.5MP mode, it will theoretically produce an image resolution of 0.78MP (12.5MP/16).

However, with in-sensor zoom, the frame to be zoomed in is selected from the entire scope and recreated. That way, Samsung said, the sensor can maintain the original 12.5MP resolution and enable clearer video capture.

The camera usually switches from a wide-angle lens to a telephoto lens when zooming 3x or more. This usually causes the image quality and video shooting angle to change.

However, with Zoom Anyplace, Samsung claims that the 200 MP wide camera can zoom smoothly up to 2x or even 4x (digital zoom) without decreasing resolution.

For video capture angles, Zoom Anyplace allows users to capture the entire field of view and the zoomed area simultaneously on video. So, users will get two video shooting angles in one recording, namely full screen and close up, as illustrated in the image above.

Ready for Samsung S24 Ultra?

This Zoom Anyplace feature seems to have been developed for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra flagship cellphone which is believed to launch in January 2024. This can be seen from the introductory video for the ISOCELL Zoom Anyplace feature which uploaded on the site Samsung Newsroom.

In a video that is about one minute long, Samsung says that the Zoom Anyplace feature is “accelerated by Qualcomm AI Engine”. Not only that, Samsung also showed off the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor in the video introducing the Zoom Anyplace feature.

Earlier this year, the Galaxy S23 Ultra appeared for the first time with a 200 MP camera and was powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chipset.

If you look at the rumors and history of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the video introducing the Zoom Anyplace feature seems to imply that this feature will be present on the Galaxy S24 Ultra which is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

However, Samsung has only recently introduced the Zoom Anyplace feature. Samsung did not say which cellphone models would be the first to be equipped with this feature. Also, Samsung has not provided any information regarding the presence of the Galaxy S24 series next year.
