Samsung introduced the latest high performance SSD PM9C1a for personal computers

Samsung Electronics announced about the readiness for production of new high-performance SSDs for PC: PM9C1a models with PCIe 4.0 interface and NVMe protocol support. Equipped with 5nm Samsung controllers and 7th generation V-NAND memory (176 layers), the drives will take everyday PC performance to a new level and not give in to demanding computing and gaming tasks.

New items will be available in capacities of 256, 512 and 1000 GB in different versions of the M.2 form factor: 22 × 30 mm, 22 × 42 mm and 22 × 80 mm. With a new controller and PCIe 4.0 interface, Samsung PM9C1a SSDs boast 1.6 times faster sequential read speed and 1.8 times faster sequential write speed than the previous PM9B1 model. At the same time, the read speed reaches 6000 MB / s, and the write speed – 5600 MB / s. Productivity reaches 900 thousand and 1000 thousand IOPS for random read and write operations, respectively.

No less important was the increase in the energy efficiency of new drives. The PM9C1a models deliver 70% better performance per watt than their predecessors. In other words, the new SSD can perform the same amount of work while consuming significantly less power. Finally, when the laptop enters standby mode, such a drive will consume approximately 10% less power.

In addition, PM9C1a drives support the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) Device Identifier Composition Engine (DICE) security standard. It generates embedded cryptographic keys to protect against supply chain attacks. Such a solution will protect against cyber attacks in the process of delivering the SSD to the consumer if the suppliers have vulnerabilities. In particular, this will help to avoid fake firmware and guarantee the authenticity of products. The company did not announce the timing of the start of sales of new SSDs and the price of the issue.
