Samsung Electronics regained from Apple the crown of the largest smartphone maker in the first quarter, providing one-fifth of global shipments, Reuters reported, citing BTA.

The Chinese company Xiaomi also entered the top three with its best quarterly results ever recorded. Its shipments rose 62 percent to 49 million smartphones, and its market share increased 14 percent, according to market research company Canalys.
Overall, global shipments rose 27 percent to 347 million devices in the first quarter after the Chinese economy reopened after the pandemic and the rapid spread of vaccines in the United States boosted hopes for economic recovery.
Samsung shipped 76.5 million smartphones in the quarter for a 22 percent market share.
The company announced today a growth of 66 percent in the quarterly profit in the mobile division due to strong sales of the iconic series of smartphones Galaxy S21.
Apple shipped 52.4 million iPhones in January-March, coming in second with a 15 percent market share.

The company still holds a record market share in the United States, China, India and Japan, Counterpoint analyst Varun Mishra said, adding that the Pro Max iPhone was the best-selling in the United States.
Smartphone sales have increased in the last year as people have stayed at home and worked remotely.
