That Samsung is working on the update to One UI 5.1 is no secret, nor is it expected to arrive first to the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. On the other hand, not much has been known about the update, but now Samsung on its own has happened to reveal some information in an unexpected direction – in update information for the Galaxy Watch 5.
In the information for watches, it is written that One UI 5.1 will be a requirement for a new feature called “Camera Controller” that will allow users to pinch to zoom on the watch and thus control the zoom on the mobile to which the watch is connected. Samsung has previously said that feature will be released in February 2023, which then means that One UI 5.1 not only appears to be coming first to the S23 models, but that they will ship with that version of the OS.
It is also written, regarding that feature, that One UI 5.1 will be available on flagship models released after the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Flip. In that case, it would include the Galaxy S20, S21 and Galaxy S22 as well as the Galaxy Z Flip, Z Flip 5G, Z Flip 3, Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 4.
One UI 5.1 will also be released to significantly more models that are not classified as flagship models, but that these will not get access to the specific camera function.
