Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 Review: Pros, Minuses, and Comparison to Previous Models

Pros

New Flex Hinge with rails Greater brightness of the external display The gap between the two parts has disappeared Superior performance, more compact stylus

Minuses

Minimal changes against Z Fold4 Design is slowly becoming outdated Unconventional display aspect ratio High sales change

The development of folding phones from Samsung has always been driven by the Galaxy Fold, the clamshell Flip just “went along” with it. However, the proportions of jigsaw puzzles sold speak in favor of clams, so the South Koreans changed their strategy. For this year, the Z Flip5 is number one, which received the most news, and the Fold has only slightly improved some aspects that have been criticized for a long time. On the one hand, all the shortcomings have not disappeared, and the phone is in many ways similar to its predecessor, on the other hand, you get a great all-rounder for work and fun. And in interesting colors.

No, nothing significant has changed in the basic layout of the Fold over the past three generations. It is still stretched to the height in the closed state, only this time the big gap between the two parts in the closed state has (finally) disappeared. And that’s because of the new generation hinge, which we can only praise in all aspects. The phone has retained increased IPx8 resistance, and unfortunately also an equally noticeable translation in the display. Although the first impressions indicated that the storage in the inner panel will be reduced, after testing the phone, it seems exactly the same as last year’s Z Fold4…

…and this also applies to a lot of other functions, which are in many ways similar to their predecessors. The internal display is brighter, but the sub-display selfie, for example, has the same finesse as before. Outside of the new generation hinge, the biggest change is a smaller stylus that easily hides on the back of the case, which you have to purchase separately. Nevertheless, in our opinion, the time has come for the stylus to go directly into the body of the phone.

However, the existence of the Fold5 on the market is by no means unnecessary. The performance of the puzzle is top-notch, you can use it for work and for fun. Actually, I only miss a few details – a stylus built into the phone’s body, cameras from the S23 Ultra (or at least a larger optical zoom) and a higher battery capacity, probably at the expense of the phone’s thickness. But Samsung is more likely to go the route of slightly reducing dimensions and reducing weight (10 grams have been saved year-on-year), so there is no room for a larger battery.

Introducing Samsung’s new jigsaw puzzles:

The Galaxy Z Fold5, despite the minimum of innovations, is still the best folding device you can find on our market. But it is intended for technology enthusiasts and geeks, the mainstream has moved in a completely different direction in the last few years. Perhaps also thanks to the purchase price, which starts at 45,000 crowns this time as well. Clams are still much cheaper…
