KOMPAS.com – Samsung officially launched its newest foldable cellphone duo Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 last Wednesday (26/7/2023).
The day after launching, to be precise on Thursday (27/7/2023), the cellphone vendor from South Korea uploaded a video of the endurance test of the two newest folding cellphones on the official South Korean Youtube channel.
There are several aspects tested by Samsung, starting from the Folding Test, Tumble Test, IPX8 Water Resistance Test, IPX4 Water Resistance Test, Environmental Chamber Test, Drop Test, S Pen Drawing Test, to Steel Ball Drop Test.

The first test is the Folding Test. In this test, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 appear to be opened and closed many times to test the resistance of the hinge, which is the main structure of the two devices.
Samsung claims that these two folding phones can withstand being opened and closed up to 200,000 times, so if they are opened and closed about 100 times a day, the device can still be used normally in about five years.

In the next test, Samsung slammed these two folding phones many times in a small rotating room with the Tumble Test. They also slammed the two foldable phones from a certain height in the Drop Test.
As a result, it seems that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 can still operate normally after receiving a hard impact, as an effect of the Tumble Test and Drop Test. It is not shown whether the frame or device has a scratch effect or not.
In another test, Samsung tried soaking and spraying water on its two newest folding phones. This test is conducted to prove that the two devices are resistant to water.

In the testing process, it can be seen that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 are strong enough to be immersed in water, and can withstand splashes of water from various directions. However, it should be noted, these two folding phones do not have dust resistance certification.

Apart from the tests above, Samsung also tested these two folding phones in several other test methods.
Some of them are operating the device in a room with extreme conditions and temperatures, testing the screen’s durability by dropping an iron ball, and testing the responsiveness of the screen with the S Pen.
