Samsung is working on an update for its Galaxy Watch watches so that they can show images from Nest and Ring cameras. It should also be possible to talk to people at the door via the watch if users have a video doorbell from one of those brands.
The images can be consulted without opening an app, says Samsung. You can do this by swiping to the right from the home screen, where there is a SmartThings widget that can transmit the images. Samsung doesn’t say why the support is coming now, but it may be because there is support for Matter, the smart home standard that should allow smart home systems to work together.
Also, Galaxy Watch users should be able to control many more devices from the watch after the update. The Galaxy Watch models are now compatible with a relatively short list of smart home devices. Samsung does not say when the update will come and for which models it will be released. It is obvious that it only concerns models with the newer Wear OS 3, such as the Watch4 and Watch5. Samsung has older models with its own Tizen operating system, but they are probably not compatible.
