Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra poses on the first renderings so far. They herald the return of 3.5 mm jack connectors and slots for microSD memory cards. Does such a Samsung flagship convince you to buy?
I will not hide that I am a bit disappointed with this year’s flagship of the Korean manufacturer. Both those from the beginning of the year and those from a few days ago are simply slightly improved versions of their predecessors, without any particular innovation. The most serious problems have not been fixed either, but perhaps it will Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra – as long as it will be like on these renderings.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will come back with a 3.5 mm jack connector and a microSD card slot?
What is obviously most striking is the great return of the two absent joints. Honestly, I do not see the point in adding a 3.5 mm jack connector, because currently TWS headphones are so cheap that buying those with a cable seems like masochism. The memory card slot is different – I do not need it, but I understand the arguments of those for whom memory expansion is a must-have smartphone accessory.

As you surely noticed, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra from the renderings does not have a hole in the screen. It’s almost 100% just wishful thinking, because leaks have already talked about the camera. Camera under the screen in Galaxy Z Fold 3 it is so bad that Koreans are not going to use it in the new flagship. Don’t ask me where the logic is, because it’s not here.
There is also the camera island. This one will definitely appear on the rear panel and will definitely be larger than in 2021. I am not sure if it will have this shape (taken from the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, but it makes sense there due to the setting of the lenses and the additional screen). Rumors about a much larger matrix, however, suggest that the island for the camera will be more of an archipelago – or a continent.

I pre-ordered the S21 Ultra with 512GB of storage. I was very disappointed to see they had removed the microSD slot. When you’re taking 8k video, a lot more storage is required. This impacts how much other stuff you can have on the phone. Having to transfer large videos is another issue. It’s much better to invest in a quality (read: fast), large, microSD card that can simply be ejected from the phone and into the card reader of the device where you want to edit your video.
I like to also have different microSD cards with different content; mp3, videos, work, etc. It’s nice to pop one out and pop in another card and go without having to transfer to and from the phone storage. When you use more than one phone, it’s nice to pop the microSD out and put it into another phone without having to transfer anything.
I plan to buy a new S22 Ultra 1TB, but I have already told Samsung that if they don’t add back in the microSD card slot that I had on my S20 Ultra, I’m don’t with buying Samsung phones.
I sincerely hope they listened or I’ll be going elsewhere.
