Samsung Galaxy S21 – This is how Samsung’s next top model will be

Samsung usually has two major mobile launches a year. The Galaxy S series is usually updated in the first half, while the Note series is launched in the last half.

We are soon moving into the new year, and that means that a new top model is approaching. More specifically, a sequel to the Galaxy S20 series, probably called the Galaxy S21.

But what can we expect from the Samsung Galaxy S21? When will it arrive? And what will be the price? We have gathered the hottest rumors.

Galaxy S21 in brief:

  • Launched in January
  • Will come in three editions: S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra
  • The S21 Ultra will get a new quadruple camera

The name

Samsung has not said what the next Galaxy S flagship will be called, but most people refer to it as the Galaxy S21, so that’s why we do it too. However, the Galaxy S30 is a current alternative.

When will it be launched?

Samsung launched The 2020 top model, Galaxy S20, in mid-February, with sales starting in March.

We would assume that the same thing happens with the sequel, although some rumors will have it that they will accelerate to January. Technolekker Jon Prosser writes the following on Twitter:

How many models?

Just like the Galaxy S20, the sequel will come in three different models:

  • S21: 6,2″
  • S21+: 6,7″
  • S21 Ultra: 6,8″

If the screen size is correct, the S21 and S21 + remain the same size as their predecessors, while the S21 gets 0.1 inch smaller screen.

Designed

Samsung did not make the major changes to the design of the Galaxy 20 compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S10. The camera block went from being a strip in the middle to being more square and placed on the side.

No total redesign is expected this time either, but there may be some minor changes, not least some new color choices. Black, white, gray, pink and purple are said to be your choice.

Specifications

All three S21 models are expected to have screens with a 120 Hz refresh rate, but the Ultra model is rumored to be equipped with something called LTPO technology, which makes the refresh rate dynamic as needed, which has a power-saving effect.

As for other specifications, there is talk of Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 875 chip or Samsung’s own Exynos 2100 chip, support for 5G and either 128 or 256 GB of storage. Larger battery capacity is also expected.

Or else rumors it also that Samsung will “take an Apple”, and drop attaching charging pads and earbuds in the box.

It is also speculated that the S21 Ultra will support Samsung’s S-Pen, but Steve Hemmerstoffer, better known in the technology leak OnLeaks, claims it does not have a dedicated hole for the pen, so in that case it will have to be worn next to it.

What’s new with the camera?

According to rumors, the S21 and S21 + will be equipped with a relatively similar camera to their predecessors; a triple camera with a 12 MP wide angle as the main camera, a 12 MP ultra wide angle and a 64 MP telephoto camera.

Premium model S21 Ultra claimed however, to get a new camera system, a quadruple camera with a 108 MP wide angle as the main camera, 12 MP ultra wide angle and two 10 MP telephoto cameras, one with 3x zoom and the other with 10x zoom. This layout is therefore largely reminiscent of what Huawei has in mind P40 Pro Plus model, which is not sold in Norway.

The two telephoto cameras will offer 130% larger pixels and so-called dual pixel autofocus, which will improve Samsung’s controversial 100x «Space Zoom». By introducing laser autofocus, they also hope to avoid the focus problems more people experienced with the S20 Ultra.

How much will it cost?

It remains to be seen what the prices of the Galaxy S21 models will be until launch, but at launch the S20 cost the following:

  • S20 with 128 GB storage and 4G support, cost NOK 9,490 as a guide. The 5G version cost NOK 10,490.
  • The S20 + costs NOK 11,490, while the S20 Ultra costs NOK 14,490. All with 128 GB capacity.

The rumors however, that price may be even higher because Qualcomm is going to charge a higher price for its Snapdragon 875 chip.
