Today the long-awaited Android 14 update lands on the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE. The device also receives One UI 6 and the associated new or improved features.
Galaxy S21 FE update: Android 14 and One UI 6 available
One Galaxy phone after another is currently receiving the upgrade to One UI 6 and Android 14. The Galaxy S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra were already available at the end of November, but everyone with a Fan Edition had to be patient a little longer. Had to, because patience is no longer necessary today.
Firmware version G990BXXU6FWK3 brings the Galaxy S21 FE to the latest versions of the Android OS and Samsung’s One UI interface – 14 and 6, respectively. Because the device already had the November security patch, not much changes in this area. The download is almost 2.5GB in total, so take your time.
One UI 6 does of course bring quite a few changes, such as the new design of the Quick panel and the One UI 6 font. There are also improvements for the Weatherwidget and app, it Lock screenand new widgets and options for the Camera. In addition, there are more options to keep security in order, and your phone will learn a new ‘Multi-touch trick’. Check out many more innovations in One UI 6 for yourself.
Reading tip: This is how you prepare your Samsung Galaxy for the Android 14 update
After installation, give your S21 FE some time to re-optimize itself. As long as this process is running, the energy consumption may be higher than you are used to from your phone. If all goes well, this will normalize again after a few hours – or days at the latest.
Please note: on other devices, this upgrade contains a curious bug that disables the jumping of status bar icons. As a result, there is a chance that they will burn your screen in the long term. This won’t happen very quickly, and we assume that Samsung can solve the ‘burn-in bug in One UI 6’ in the short term – for example with the upcoming December security update.
Availability
The Android 14 update is now immediately available on all Galaxy S21 FE models sold in the Netherlands and Belgium. It does not matter whether you have the variant with model number SM-G990B, or the SM-G990B2, nor whether you branded device directly from Vodafone or T-Mobile.
As usual, you can wait until your phone finds the upgrade itself. But you can also start working directly via Settings -> Software update -> Download and install.
Have you already updated your Galaxy S21 FE to Android 14 and One UI 6? Did everything go well or did you encounter any problems during or after the installation?
(Thanks to everyone who reported it to us!)
