The Samsung Galaxy S11 is dead. Long live the Samsung Galaxy S20! That will be the new name of the standard telephone of the South Korean company. And in addition the most accurate Samsung rumorologist in the galaxy has confirmed that they will come with 120Hz screens.
“It is confirmed that the 2K 120Hz screens [en la línea S20] they won’t be canceled, ”he said Ice universe On twitter. The previous day he had published another tweet – which he deleted immediately – pointing to the possibility that the Galaxy S11 / S20 did not use this ultrafast screen technology. In later tweets the galactic cat confirmed that it was a misinterpretation.
He has also published this matrix, confirming the names and the main feature of Samsung phones that will appear on February 11, 2020.
Apparently there will be a trio of new cell phones, as happened in 2019. And instead of S11, as others have already pointed out before, the new line will be called Galaxy S20. Ice Universe says that 9 numbers have been skipped because the new cell phone is very innovative and represents “a new beginning.”
I do not know if it will be more or less innovative but the name seems to fit with previous rumors that Samsung could eliminate the previous numbering to adopt the year as an indicator of the model. In this case, the 20 would correspond to 2020 and next year we can see the S21. According to the Korean newspaper Ajunews, Samsung CEO Dj Koh has confirmed the name change in private meetings in the CES 2020.
According to Ice Universe, the new names of Samsung’s standard cell phones will be Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 + and Galaxy 20 Ultra.
The matrix indicates that the Galaxy S20 will be a “light” cell phone, which probably not only indicates that it could have a lower weight than the rest but also more modest specifications, such as Apple’s iPhone 11. The Galaxy S20 would be the “mainstream” model – which we can assume means that it will be the main model, such as the iPhone 11 Pro. And finally there is the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which will be the most advanced and with the largest screen, such as the iPhone 11 Pro Max
And then, of course, we have the Galaxy Bloom. This is the rumored folding phone that will be like the Razr. That is, a normal-sized phone that folds in half so it can fit better in your pocket.
The matrix qualifies it as the “future”, which may indicate that, even if it was presented on February 11, it would not reach stores immediately. Or perhaps this also means that Samsung considers Bloom as the future of cell phones – in which some would double their size to become tablets and others would double to improve their portability.
The battery concern
But returning to the Galaxy S20, in another tweet Ice Universe begs that the new cell phone will allow those users who are concerned about battery life to choose a 60Hz soft drink instead of 120Hz. This measure is designed to calm the mood of fans who argue that 120Hz has a high battery cost and few benefits for most users.
Logically, a screen that cools at a speed of 120 times per second consumes more energy than one that only cools 60 times per second. But 120Hz does not mean that everything looks better: unless the content moves at 120 frames per second (or above 60 frames per second) there is no difference in quality. That limits the image quality benefits of 120Hz to the user interface – which according to Ice Universe is incredibly smooth – and some video games. There is no video streaming system that transmits at 120 frames per second. And the interpolation mechanisms to increase the number of frames per second They are a real crap that makes everything look like a soap opera.
That is why Samsung will allow users to choose the refresh rate. “If users want a smooth and perfect screen, they can choose 2K 120Hz,” says Ice Universe, “but companies have no justification for forcing 2K 120Hz.”
It seems Ice Universe is very excited to see the machines on February 11. I don’t share your enthusiasm for the S20 – but I’m curious enough to see how rumored Galaxy Bloom is.
