In mid-January this year, Samsung introduced the new line of flagship smartphones Galaxy S24, and on this occasion released a small taste of a brand new wearable accessory – the smart Galaxy Ring. So far, we have only seen a few-second trailer without further details, but everything indicates that the ring should go on sale this year.
Premiere together with jigsaw puzzles?
Daniel Seung, who works as the global head of the B2B section of wearable electronics at Samsung, indirectly revealed when the Galaxy Ring will be introduced. He revealed on LinkedIn that Samsung’s new wearable health and wellness product will arrive in the second half of 2024, which means sometime between July and December this year.
Several dates come into consideration, but the most likely is mid-summer, when Samsung usually presents the new flexible Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip smartphones. To mark this occasion, the Korean giant is holding a big Galaxy Unpacked event, so it makes sense to present the new ring at that event, and not to delay its premiere with just a press release.
Nothing is known about the functions of the Galaxy Ring yet, but a lot can be estimated by looking at the competition. Samsung will undoubtedly present its ring as an accessory for more accurate measurement of health functions, especially heart rate, sleep, stress, etc. Its advantage will be its small dimensions, which can attract those customers who, for whatever reason, are not comfortable with smart bracelets and watches.

Samsung is reportedly preparing its own AR/VR headset for this year, which should compete with Apple’s Vision Pro glasses. The ring could thus also find use as an additional controller for this set, or it could be a helper for better hand tracking. Even in this case, however, we do not know when we will see smart glasses from Samsung – their presentation at the Galaxy Unpacked summer event does not make much sense, as Samsung would needlessly distract attention from other novelties.
