Jakarta –
Samsung reportedly pursuing a new wearable device, namely the Galaxy Ring, a health tracking device that is claimed to be sophisticated and innovative.
According to local website The Elec, the smart ring is being developed in collaboration with domestic and international component manufacturers to ensure its success before mass production. Samsung revealed that the decision to immediately produce this smart ring would be made in August at the earliest.
The main feature of the Galaxy Ring is the ability to collect detailed body and health data via the internal sensor which can then be easily presented on the connected smartphone. Unlike Samsung’s Galaxy Watch, this innovative smart ring is expected to provide more accurate body measurements.
To improve accuracy, the ring size can be adjusted according to the user’s finger size, minimizing the potential for data inaccuracy caused by loose fit.
However, there are some challenges that Samsung needs to overcome during the development stage. Data accuracy may be affected by weak blood flow or overly tight fittings.
Additionally, the certification process for medical device status is expected to take around 10 to 12 months, potentially delaying product availability even if mass production is approved.
Samsung is considering integrating the “Galaxy Ring” with XR (mixed reality) devices, leveraging XR technology to track a user’s head and hand movements using the camera and sensors, as shown in the patent application.
The launch of Samsung’s XR headset was reportedly delayed by six months due to competition from Apple’s Vision Pro.
The Galaxy Ring is expected to be released in 2024, likely to coincide with the announcement of the Galaxy S24 series. Interestingly, companies Noise and boAt recently launched similar health-focused smart rings in India.
