Samsung develops Galaxy smartphone with fold-out wrap-around display and under-display camera. With S Pen and ingenious stylus pen compartment.
Last month, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 on Galaxy Z Flip 3 foldable smartphones released. An Galaxy Note 21 will unfortunately no longer appear this year. It remains unclear what Samsung’s plans are regarding the Note line-up. Will the device return in its current form or will Samsung provide the Note with a major form factor update. Think of the application of a flexible screen.

In July this year, Samsung Display already registered a trademark for the name ‘Flex Note‘. A name that, in our opinion, fits perfectly with the next model. Samsung Display has applied for a design patent for an ingenious Samsung smartphone with wrap-around display and an S Pen.
Samsung Flex Note met openklapbaar wrap-around display
On October 29, 2020, Samsung Display filed a design patent with the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). The documentation was released on September 21, 2021. Two Samsung smartphones are shown on the 30 product images, which are identical to each other except for the camera system.
It concerns a Samsung smartphone with an outward folding screen. In its most compact form you have a regular sized phone, with a beautiful full screen design. The wrap-around display continues from the right side to the rear, where it takes up half of the total surface.
Users can flip the display surface from the rear to the front, creating a large tablet-sized screen. Unique to this design, Samsung has also found room to house the acclaimed S Pen. A small recess has been made where the stylus falls. When the screen is folded, the stylus falls between both display parts, so that it is safely locked in the housing. The S Pen is magnetically held in place, so that it will not fall immediately when you open the foldable screen.
In its most compact form, the housing is equally thick in all places. As soon as the screen is opened, the right back will be less thick than the left. This difference in height is ingeniously eliminated by the stylus pen, so that the device can still be placed flat on the table.
No cameras are visible on the first model. Samsung will probably opt for an under-display camera with this variant, as we also know from the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The second model has a double punch-hole camera – as can be seen in the patent image above.
The punch-hole camera is placed in the top right corner of the flexible screen. This means that the dual camera is located at the rear in folded position. This keeps the full screen front free of cameras. Moreover, this makes it possible to use the dual camera for taking selfies as well as taking regular photo and video recordings.
Samsung Galaxy Flex Note smartphone
It is an ingenious design, which Samsung designers have undoubtedly thought about for a long time. Because the wrap-around display can also be flipped open, it becomes a particularly versatile phone. In addition, Samsung has found a smart place for the stylus compartment. The location of the camera system is also well thought out.
Whether Samsung actually has plans to release this unique Galaxy Flex Note remains unknown for the time being. It is not entirely improbable, however. Samsung is enjoying great success with its foldable smartphone line-up. It is therefore likely that the South Korean manufacturer will also release several type of form factors over time.
There has been talk online for quite some time about a Samsung rollable smartphone, as well as a Samsung retractable smartphone. Also, the company’s display division recently showed a preview of a multi-foldable smartphone – the ‘Galaxy Z Flex‘ can be folded at two points. The company is experimenting with different types of models, only the best will appear on the market.
